APCC Bridge Club New Zealand

2011 PA Applications to the 23rd APCC

Dear past junior ambassador,

We have received an invitation for junior ambassadors from Auckland to attend the 23rd Asian-Pacific Children's Convention in Fukuoka from 15-27 July 2011. An additional invitation has been extended to one previous junior ambassador (known as a peace ambassador) who participated in the convention between 1989 and 2006.

Auckland Council and the New Zealand Bridge Club have been asked to begin the selection process for the 2011 peace ambassador by nominating four applicants. I am pleased to inform you that, unless you have already participated as a peace ambassador, you are eligible for nomination.

The peace ambassador selected will travel to Fukuoka with the six junior ambassadors and one chaperone from Te Atatu Intermediate School, where they will attend two camps and homestay with a Japanese family. They will also be involved in some of the activities of the convention. Return international travel costs to Fukuoka and homestay arrangements will be organised and paid for by the convention organisers. Please note that you will be responsible for your own costs associated with domestic travel to and from Auckland airport if required.

If you are interested in representing Auckland as a peace ambassador, please log on to http://www.apcc.gr.jp/e/invitationprogram/with.html and read the criteria and information provided. If you would then like to apply to be the 2011 peace ambassador, please follow the application guidelines carefully and ensure all of the required documents arrive in our office no later than 5.00 pm Monday 21 February 2011. If you do not have access to the internet, please contact us and we will print off the information and send it out to you.

Once the deadline is reached, we will select four applications to send to the executive committee of the APCC in Fukuoka, who will make the final decision in March. If successful, you will be expected to attend a series of orientation sessions in Auckland leading up to the 2011 convention. Please do not hesitate to contact me on 09 374 1407 or birgit.hermann@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz if you have any questions.

Kind regards,
